Oxygen Therapy Stratford - H2O2 or Hydrogen peroxide is a compound containing a single bond oxygen-oxygen and an oxidizer. The chemical name is H2O2. Hydrogen peroxide is a clear liquid that is somewhat more viscous than water. It is often used as a cleaning agent or as bleach. It is considered a highly reactive type of oxygen because the oxidizing capacity of H202 is really strong.
There are many uses of H202. For example, it is utilized as a propellant in rocketry. On the natural front it is produced in organisms as a by-product of oxidative metabolism. Though H202 is an effectual cleaning agent, it is not recommended for reducing bacterial infection of wounds and applying it can truly impede healing and possible lead to scarring as it destroys skin cells that are newly formed.
Some alternative medical practitioners have recommended drinking diluted hydrogen peroxide as a treatment to diseases, and particularly cancer. The American Cancer Society states that "there is no scientific evidence that hydrogen peroxide is a safe, effective or useful cancer treatment", and advises cancer patients to "remain in the care of qualified doctors who use proven methods of treatment and approved clinical trials of promising new treatments."
The use of hydrogen peroxide intravenously, has been associated to several deaths. One other controversial treatment utilizing hydrogen peroxide has surfaced, with the inhalation of hydrogen peroxide at a 1 percent concentration. Individuals should be safe and careful when using hydrogen peroxide.
